Hello

My name is Sylwia Zolkiewska, and I am an interdisciplinary visual artist, creative designer and digital culture researcher based in Warsaw, Poland. My artistic journey spans various mediums, including digital graphics, installations, animations, paintings, drawings, and monotypes, as I explore the connection between digital and physical realms.

My journey

From an early age, I’ve been passionate about visual arts, which led me to study at the esteemed Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, focusing on Graphics and Animation Film. I also explored animation, special effects, digital culture, and scriptwriting at Turku Polytechnic in Finland. Currently, I’m completing my doctoral thesis in the New Media Arts Faculty at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Computer Technology in Warsaw.

My artistic approach is defined by abstract minimalism, accentuating form, structure, and the fundamental nature of visual images while often employing black, white, and grayscale tones. Even though I have a background in figurative, classical drawing and painting, I found myself captivated by abstract expression. In my view, it offers increased freedom and potential for artistic and personal growth, enabling me to communicate my thoughts, reflections, and emotions through a refined, minimalist lens.

Artistic Process

Identifying myself as part of the post-internet art movement, my creative process involves observing and reflecting on the digital world and its specific visual language. I am captivated by the visual image itself—its form, structure, shape, colors, and potential, which often becomes the central theme in my work. I constantly take notes, sketch, and collect screenshots of digital elements that inspire me, typically working in series and frequently revisiting themes and motifs.

Art Experiments

As an interdisciplinary visual artist, I strongly believe in the power of experimentation and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. My work encompasses a wide range of media and techniques, enabling me to explore different facets of the digital world and contemporary culture.

In my artistic experiments, I strive to challenge conventional notions of art and to explore the intersections between the physical and digital realms. I often combine various mediums, such as digital graphics, abstract video installations, animations, paintings, drawings, and monotypes, to create unique and immersive experiences for the viewer.
