Screens & Mirrors – digital graphics and GIFs exploring the aesthetics, impact, and visual language of digital screens.

Screens & Mirrors (2021-2022) is a series of digital graphics and GIFs exploring the aesthetics, impact, and visual language of digital screens. The project examines how screens have transformed perception, attention, and human interaction, serving as both intermediaries and barriers between people and technology.

In today’s tech-driven world, screens often replace direct human contact, mediating cognition through sleek, reactive surfaces that respond to touch and voice. We project our desires onto these screens, where reflections—both literal and metaphorical—reshape how we see ourselves and others.

The series adopts a minimalist aesthetic, recalling the early Internet art movement, where technical limitations and a lack of familiarity with digital media led to raw, conceptual expressions. At the same time, it also inspired by Lev Manovich’s article Avant-garde as Software (1999) as it explores the connetions between new media and 20th-century abstract and conceptual movements. By deconstructing the visual codes of screens, the series reflects on their pervasive influence and challenges viewers to reconsider their relationship with digital interfaces.
