Ghosts of the Avant-Garde (2026-ongoing) is an artistic research project exploring lost, destroyed, and unrealized trajectories of the Polish interwar avant-garde, with particular attention to women artists. It combines archival research, visual speculation, and generative AI to investigate cultural memory and interrupted artistic possibilities. The project develops a curated dataset divided into four categories: surviving artworks, archival traces of lost works, original visual hypotheses, and phantom images representing absence. A custom-trained Stable Diffusion model using LoRA transforms these materials through iterative generation, deformation, glitch, and visual decay. The resulting speculative afterimages become the basis for an experimental video installation.
The project is part of Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage – read more about the project and methodology.
Presentation: The video installation is planned as a multi-channel projection onto layers of translucent fabric, emphasizing the ephemeral nature of images and memory. Designed in the spirit of low-waste practice inspired by my Agile Art Manifesto, it will be modular and adaptable to different exhibition spaces and formats. The installation will be accompanied by documentation of the artistic and technical process, including dataset development, AI model training, and generative experiments.
